E-Certificates for Patents and Trademarks available in Taiwan from January 2023

TIPO announced to offer electronic certificates for patents and trademarks from January 1, 2023. It will be more convenient for the holder to obtain and save their certificates. 

However, electronic certificates are not mandatory. The applicant may choose either an electronic or paper certificate “when paying the issue fees or trademark registration fees”. 

It’s worth noting that: 
► The applicant who chooses an electronic certificate may apply for a paper copy later on (with charge). 
► The applicant who chooses a paper certificate can NOT apply for an electronic certificate and another paper copy afterward.

The electronic certificates will be provided in PDF formats and will be equipped with anti-counterfeiting measures and QR codes. The holders may quickly verify the authenticity of their patent certificates, and access the status of their rights.

► Upon receiving the notification from TIPO, applicant can download the electronic certificate at specified site within 6 months (no limit to the number of times). 
► Afterwards, applicants will be able to access their electronic certificates by filing a request.
