| The Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO) has confirmed the continuation of the Accelerated Examination Program for Reexamination (AEPRe), which expedites the reexamination process for invention patent applications. The program's initial trial period, launched on September 1, 2024, achieved an impressive average reexamination period of just 22.8 days. TIPO continues the program in light of its simplicity, fee-free application process, and success in accelerating protection for applicants. For an overview of the AEPRe, please see our previous article here. Key Applicability and Procedure AEPRe specifically applies to reexamination cases where only part of the claims were rejected during the initial substantive examination. Applicants are encouraged to amend the claims during reexamination to align with the allowable scope identified in the initial examination decision. Cases successfully aligning the claims will qualify for accelerated processing under the AEPRe program. Program Performance Summary The program has demonstrated significant efficacy, reducing the reexamination period from the typical 10–13 months to an average of 22.8 days.
